"The Chicago Brick Era 1855 - 1974"

The Chicago brick was manufactured from the mid 1800’s through the mid 1970's. The brick became very famous and popular in the construction industry after the Great Chicago Fire of October 1871.

The fire melted the iron and wood supported structures including the mud mortar filled houses except the few small structures built with the Chicago brick by the Irish in the Chicago Irish Ghettos. The Chicago brick common would become the main source of building materials used to prevent another catastrophic fire.

The Great Fire transformed the lives of the Chicagoans and gave the city a lasting image as a place of renewal, progress and great possibilities.

Despite the Fire of 1871 that destroyed the Central Business District, the city of Chicago grew rapidly, becoming the nation's rail center and the dominant Midwestern center for manufacturing, commerce, finance, tourism, higher education and political history. The City attracted European immigrants specifically Germans and Irish and it became the home base for many during the Great Migrations out of the rural South. The city became one of the main channels of cultural integration of immigrants to the United States.

The Chicago brick became the backbone of the city's plan to rebuild a “fireproof” Chicago. The Chicago brick became relied on increasingly for its fire resistant capacity. Chicago became to be known as The City of Bricks and one of the Nation's best exhibits for Brick Architectural Achievements. The unmatched beauty of the brick has proven impossible to duplicate.

"Chicago Commons" as the familiar clay bricks are called today, come in a variety of color tones and shades. This unmatched and impossible brick to duplicate is only aquired from the demolition & the restoration process in Chicago.

The Chicago brick common looks different from other bricks produced in other regions of the Country due to the geophysic composition of the clay only found in Chicago and the process applied to manufacture the bricks.

The reclaimed brick has become in high demand particularly for its architectural value, beauty, durability, decorative appeal, historical and industrial look. The brick requires no maintenance, provides superior property curb appeal, adds value to your business or residence and no other brick provides such high level of aesthetics.

It is the best reclaimed antique brick in America with enhanced physical characters created only by time & history.
